I Believe, Help Me To Overcome My Unbelief

The best story in the N.T. that illustrates the mixed bag condition of our faith. This
story illustrates the possible co-existence of faith and doubt and what ultimately makes
the difference: Jesus Christ and His love and power. This is a sad picture of a father
who’s only son was demon oppressed and manifesting epileptic type seizures that
threatens his life (verses 17-18). If this fact was not bad enough, the powerful disciples
of Jesus(see Mark 6:17,30,30) were not able to cast it out (v18). And on top of it all the
Judaism of that day believed most human maladies were evidence of sin(contrast In
9:1-2). All was set against him and his son. And as a result of all the above, he
struggled with belief. Can you blame him for his discouragement? How would we feel in
a similar situation?
